Criminal defense guidance may help minimize DUI repercussions

When a Florida police officer pulls someone over on suspicion of drunk driving, he or she may request that a motorist perform a series of tests to help determine whether probable cause for arrest exists. A women was asked to take such tests on a recent Sunday at approximately 2 a.m. when police officers claimed she was driving erratically. The events that unfolded next wound up costing the woman her job and focusing on her criminal defense

The 41-year-old happened to have been a police officer herself. Her colleagues say she was seen driving a vehicle in reverse through the streets. They also claim her eyes were bloodshot and she smelled of alcohol at the time.

The woman reportedly didn't fare so well when she submitted to field sobriety tests. Authorities also say she took a chemical test that showed her blood alcohol content was .14. The percentage listed in states across the country to define the illegal operation of a motor vehicle under influence of alcohol is .08.

The woman's employers immediately fired her from her position on the police force. There is no way to predict the outcome of a particular criminal proceeding, however, as being arrested and charged with a crime by no means constitutes guilt. Every person in Florida or elsewhere facing charges has the right to fight against those accusations in court, and many who do so alongside experienced criminal defense guidance are able to avoid conviction. Even for those who do get convicted, experienced support is often key to obtaining a lighter sentence.
