Woman arrested for drunk driving when she was not even in a car

A woman in Florida recently found herself facing trouble with police. The officers accused her of drunk driving. Police apparently became aware of a potential problem when several people called in reports to 911.

Police were informed that a woman appeared to be in great danger and was traveling down the middle of the highway. The responding officers came upon a situation they were likely not expecting. Rather than find a woman behind the wheel of a car exhibiting behavior that coincided with the emergency reports, they witnessed instead, a woman riding down the road on horseback.

The 53-year-old woman was given a breath test, and officials say her results registered a blood alcohol content of .161. Like most states, the legal BAC limit for driving is .08. A local sheriff later said it was very apparent that the woman was in no condition to be on the road. He also said by doing what she allegedly did, she not only placed herself in harm's way but all other travelers in the area as well.

The horse was reportedly taken to a nearby livestock facility, and the woman was taken to jail. Police say she happens to have quite an extensive criminal record that includes multiple felony charges and at least 10 misdemeanors related to criminal traffic offenses, drug crimes and other infractions. Most Florida resident who face similar situations (although it may be uncommon to get arrested for drunk driving on a horse) request immediate assistance from experienced criminal defense attorneys to represent them in court.
