Aggressive criminal defense often averts lengthy sentences

A man was recently sentenced in a Florida court to 30 years in prison. Even after he fulfills his sentence, he will remain under supervision for the rest of his life. The man has been officially listed as a habitual felony offender. Situations like this one are examples of why it is so crucial to secure experienced and aggressive criminal defense assistance before heading to court.

In this particular case, the defendant was convicted for armed robbery at a convenience store. He was also convicted for grand theft and illegal felony possession of a firearm. The minimum mandatory portion of his sentence is 10 full years.

Authorities say when the man robbed the store, he pointed a gun at the person working behind the counter. He reportedly stole more than $400 from the store's cash register, but the money was later restored. Police say they learned about the robbery when an anonymous phone call came through, stating that a motorist was traveling behind a suspected getaway vehicle. Police stopped the vehicle and subsequently arrested and charged the man who is now slated to spend the next 30 years behind bars.

Criminal defense strategies are often key factors to avoiding conviction altogether or at least mitigating one's circumstances as much as possible. An experienced Florida attorney knows how to find loopholes in prosecutors' arguments and can combat any tactics used against a particular defendant in a quest to obtain a guilty verdict. Serious charges often lead to severe penalties, which is why it makes sense to rely on strong legal support in court.
