Florida party alleged scene of underage drinking and sex crimes

Many teens in Florida and elsewhere love to get together and party with their friends. One youth is said to have been hosting a party at his house that included other teens from two local high schools. The child's mother was reportedly also present at the time, which apparently resulted in her being charged with sex crimes.

Deputies say they acted on a tip that the woman provided the teenagers with alcohol. The informant also supposedly let the police know the same woman was having sexual encounters with minors. Police say the woman appeared drunk when they took her into custody.

It is alleged that she asked a teenage boy to help her shower at the party. At some point during the gathering, she is said to have had sexual encounters with at least five different boys, all between the ages of 16 and 17. The woman now sits behind bars, with bond set at $7,500 on each of seven counts against her.

Her arrest took place on Jan. 18. Being charged with sex crimes against minors in Florida (or anywhere) is obviously a serious matter. Any person thus charged has the right to present a defense in court, and a criminal lawyer can help contest the charges and seek a favorable result. As with any other individual accused of a crime, this woman is fully entitled to the presumption of innocence before the court. It will be the responsibility of prosecutors to actually prove the allegations in court and beyond a reasonable doubt, a legal standard that is often difficult to meet.
