Man suspected of drunk driving in fatal Florida accident

One Florida man may wish to assess his circumstances and determine which legal avenues may be in his best interests after recently being charged. Reports stated that the man is accused of drunk driving and being involved in an accident that resulted in the death of a bicyclist. The incident reportedly took place after 7 p.m. on the Howard Frankland Bridge.

The man was reportedly driving south in the outside lane of the interstate when his vehicle drifted onto the shoulder of the road. As a result, he purportedly struck a bicyclist. It was noted that it is illegal to ride a bicycle on Florida interstates. The man left the scene of the incident, but authorities later stopped him. Police believed that the man was intoxicated as officers allegedly noticed his bloodshot eyes, an odor of alcohol and that the man's balance was impaired.

The man reportedly consented to a blood test, which showed that his blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit. He also took part in field sobriety tests, which he apparently did not perform satisfactorily. As a result, authorities took him into custody. Because the bicyclist died in the accident, the man is currently facing charges for DUI manslaughter and leaving the scene of a fatal crash.

In order to confront the drunk driving charges that have been brought against him, the Florida man will want to determine how he would like to create and present his criminal defense. There may be multiple options for him to consider, and finding out information on the alternatives could be useful to him. By consulting with his attorney, he can determine which options will prove most beneficial to him.
