Woman faces child neglect, drug charges in Florida

Florida authorities who were looking for a scooter that had been stolen said they found a toddler instead. It is claimed that the child had been left alone and was surrounded by drugs. The toddler, 2 years old, was reportedly left in a hotel room in Florida. The child's mother has been arrested and now faces child neglect and drug charges.

The boy was found on a recent Tuesday morning. Police said they went to the motel to search for the scooter. During their search, they allegedly saw the child sleeping in the room. Drug paraphernalia, crack cocaine and marijuana were reportedly all within arm's reach of the child.

The child was placed in state custody. Meanwhile, the mother was arrested and taken into police custody. Police continued to search for the individual who stole the scooter they were seeking.

It is within the rights of the woman facing child neglect and drug charges to proceed to trial in Florida, where the prosecution must prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt through evidence that meets the criminal justice system's exacting requirements. If prosecutors fail to do this, the woman cannot be convicted. The woman may also be given the opportunity to plea bargain with the prosecution, which may offer the benefit of resulting in reduced charges and/or a more lenient sentence than what she may be given if found guilty at trial. In either situation, defense counsel will ensure that the woman's rights are protected at all stages of the criminal proceedings and will fight for the most personally favorable outcome for her.
