Former Florida football player faces gun and drug charges

Felony charges have been filed against a former high school football star who played the sport for a Florida university, as well as the NFL. His charges include both gun and drug charges. His arrest occurred on a Thursday in late March.

Police said they attempted to pull over the man a little bit before 4 p.m. after he had blown through a stop sign. They said they also saw that his vehicle's window tint was not in compliance with legal limits, so they activated their lights in order to pull him over. The vehicle reportedly slowed down, but the man kept driving and eventually reached Interstate 95, where he traveled as slow as 5 mph. While in the car, the man allegedly appeared to be making frantic movements before lowering a window and throwing something away.

When police searched the man's vehicle, they reportedly discovered marijuana and cocaine, along with a 9mm pistol that was fully loaded. The gun had been placed under the driver' seat. Authorities said they also found a jar in his vehicle that contained a small amount of marijuana, but it looked as though it had once contained more of the drug. The man currently faces charges of possessing cocaine, destroying evidence, and displaying or using a gun while committing a felony. He was placed in jail and released on a bond of $15,000.

The man's gun and drug charges must be proved beyond a reasonable doubt. If this fails to happen, no conviction can be secured in his case. The accused individual, who has the right to defend his innocence in court, has the same rights guaranteed to people accused of committing other types of crimes in the state of Florida.
