A crash in Florida recently claimed the life of one individual, leaving the individual's family members grieving. Meanwhile, another person ended up in jail on a drunk driving charge following the vehicle collision. The car accident occurred on a Sunday.

According to police, a 30-year-old man was driving east on a scooter across a bridge at around 4 a.m. All of a sudden, a car that a 53-year-old man was driving reportedly crashed into the scooter from the back. The car driver is said to have left the accident scene and kept going east.

The man on the scooter ended up passing away in the crash. The car driver was later taken into custody and faces charges of DUI manslaughter as well as leaving a vehicle accident scene when the accident led to death. He is additionally charged with driving with a license that had been suspended and causing death.

The accused individual has the right to go to trial, where Florida prosecutors must explicitly prove the man's charges related to drunk driving beyond a reasonable doubt before a criminal conviction can occur. Instead of proceeding to trial, the defendant may opt to accept a plea deal by prosecutors if one is offered, with a plea agreement potentially leading to reduced charges and/or a lighter sentence for the accused. A careful review of the evidence that the prosecution plans to present in support of its allegations might be a chief focus of the defense counsel in this type of criminal case.
