Alleged domestic violence leads to arrests of husband and wife

Two people in Florida were recently arrested following an apparent domestic dispute. The claimed domestic violence incident took place on a Tuesday. It is said to have started with an argument between the couple. The 51-year-old woman allegedly hit her husband's head with a half-eaten Taco Bell burrito.

It is claimed that the 66-year-old husband then stabbed his wife with a fork. Authorities reported that the husband had been using the fork to eat his burrito. It was not clear if the fork was made of plastic, though fragments of it were later removed from the wife's hand at a medical center.

The woman reported to police that they were fighting over her husband's desire to go drinking at a bar each night. Apparently, the man left the house after the altercation. Police located him at a bar. He was charged him with aggravated battery. Meanwhile, the woman faces a charge of battery related to domestic violence.

Those who are accused of domestic violence in Florida can proceed to court to contest the charges. No conviction may result unless the prosecution proves the formal accusations beyond a reasonable doubt -- an exacting standard that exists in an attempt to protect individuals from being convicted of and sentenced for crimes they did not commit. The criminal defense in such a case will strive for an outcome that is in the defendant's best interests while also fighting to ensure that the client's rights are not violated at any point during the criminal proceeding.
