Man faces drunk driving charges following 34th arrest

One man in Florida was recently arrested after reportedly drinking and driving. The drunk driving arrest took place following a high-speed chase by police. This is the 34th time that the man has been taken into custody.

Police said they received a report about a car that had been stolen early on a recent Sunday. Police then spotted the car around 4 a.m. The vehicle's operator was driving at speeds in the range of 110 mph close to the interstate.

The 39-year-old driver reportedly ran away from the vehicle when police pulled the car over. Authorities said the man then entered a woody area that was muddy. After setting up a perimeter, officials found the man at a little before 5 a.m. The man was charged with felony drunk driving as well as resisting arrest and grand theft involving a car. His previous 33 arrests occurred after he allegedly committed crimes such as burglary, possessing a firearm while being a convicted felon, robbery, causing death or serious injury by not stopping, and possessing drugs.

The man facing drunk driving and other criminal charges in Florida may decide to proceed to trial on the case's merits, where the prosecution is forced to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt before a conviction can occur. Instead of going to trial, the defendant may choose to accept a plea deal if one is offered by prosecutors. The benefit of a plea agreement is that it might lead to a lighter sentence for the accused. The individual's legal counsel will push for the outcome that is ultimately in his best interests.
