2 individuals face drug charges in Florida following raid

Two people in Florida have been arrested on multiple drug charges. The arrests on drug charges came after a home was raided by a SWAT team as part of a drug investigation. The two individuals were taken into custody on a Friday in early December.

Police said that, after raiding a house, they discovered a stockpile of drug paraphernalia and illegal drugs, as well as 16 firearms. When they went into one bedroom, they reportedly found a 22-year-old woman in bed and a 22-year-old man partially out of the bed with a handgun that was loaded. Police said the man dropped the weapon quickly when he saw the SWAT Team.

Both of the individuals face charges of armed drug trafficking, as well as manufacturing hashish. They have also been accused of grand theft involving a firearm and possessing marijuana and hash -- with the intention to sell. The two are charged with possessing drug paraphernalia, cocaine and codeine as well. The man was taken into custody on a warrant for driving under the influence, as well as trying to elude police, and he has been charged with violating the terms of his probation.

The two individuals facing drug charges in Florida have the right to go to trial to fight the charges if they believe this to be in their best interest. At trial, prosecutors have to prove the criminal charges beyond a reasonable doubt before criminal convictions can be secured. A defendant in this situation may also choose to plea bargain with the prosecution if given the opportunity, which may lead to reduced charges or a lighter and, thus, more personally favorable sentence for the accused.
