2 charged with felonies after children suffer harm

Two individuals face many felony charges related to drugs in Florida. They were arrested after police said two children were transported to a medical center in critical condition after they consumed an acid-based fluid. When people are accused of committing any crimes, including felonies, the charges have to be proved beyond a reasonable doubt before any conviction is possible.

Police said they received a call about a home medical emergency on a recent Wednesday. When they arrived at the home, they reportedly noticed some items indicating that meth was being made there. Once a warrant was obtained, police searched the house. A man and woman ended up being arrested and were jailed without bond.

Police said both of the kids in the home, one being 3 years old, had consumed a chemical typically used in the creation of meth. The two adults, ages 24 and 27, now face charges of manufacturing meth in the presence of children as well as child neglect and causing major bodily harm as a result. They were additionally charged with possessing a drug with no prescription, possessing drug equipment and possessing chemicals of a drug.

The two individuals accused of felonies have the right proceed directly to trial to vigorously fight the criminal charges. They may also seek to negotiate a plea deal, if offered by prosecutors, which may lead to a lighter and thus more favorable sentence than what would be imposed following a guilty verdict at trial. Anyone accused of drug-related charges is entitled to the same rights guaranteed to people charged with other types of crimes in Florida.
