Man on university campus arrested on drunk driving charges

One university student in Florida was recently arrested for driving under the influence. The drunk driving arrest was made early in the morning on a Thursday. Police said the 20-year-old man drove on the college campus while intoxicated.

At around 2 a.m., the man, who appeared to be a university student, reportedly sat in his car in a parking lot with the lights and engine running. A police officer was performing foot patrol in the area and noticed that the man's eyes were bloodshot. The police officer also spotted an open pack of 24 Bud Light cans in the car's back seat.

The officer requested that the man complete field sobriety tests. However, he allegedly did not perform them well and was thus arrested on charges of possessing alcohol as a minor as well as DUI. The officer said he had also noticed a strong alcohol smell coming from inside the car, and the man found in the car refused to complete a breath test -- something required of any person with a Florida driver's license. The man is reported as receiving two careless driving infractions as well as one speed violation infraction in 2014.

Drunk driving charges might lead to jail time or other consequences, including having one's driver's license suspended, if one ends up being found guilty. The problems resulting from such a conviction may last for years, keeping a person from being able to land a job or rent a car. Fortunately, a person who has been accused of such a crime is always presumed innocent unless he or she is proved guilty according to the strict standards of the criminal court.
