Man faces drunk driving charges following fatal Florida crash

One man was recently arrested on drunk driving charges in Florida. The charges stem from an alleged drunk driving crash that occurred on Saturday morning. The three-vehicle accident happened along State Road 39.

Police said a 47-year-old man was driving a car north along the state road. However, he did not notice that the car in front of him was going more slowly. At a little past 12:30 a.m., the car that was in front of him ended up being redirected and smashed head-on with a vehicle going south.

The head-on collision forced the southbound vehicle to collide with a utility pole, resulting in the death of its occupants. A 29-year-old and 37-year-old died at the crash scene. Meanwhile, the driver and passengers of the car that was pushed into the southbound vehicle suffered minor injuries. The man who police said caused the accident also suffered minor injuries and faces charges of DUI-manslaughter (two counts) and driving with a license that was suspended, leading to death.

The problems stemming from these types of drunk driving charges can last for years in Florida. For instance, they may result in time behind bars if the accused individual ends up being convicted. Even when the person has been released from prison, the individual may struggle to land jobs. It is for this reason that DUI charges have to be proved beyond a reasonable doubt before a conviction can be handed down in court. The criminal defense's goal is pursue a result that is in the interest of the defendant while simultaneously ensuring that the client's rights are safeguarded.
