Man accused of drunk driving in Florida

A man in Florida was recently accused of driving while under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested on a Monday morning. The drunk driving arrest occurred following a police traffic stop along Interstate 4.

Police said they responded to a call regarding a vehicle stopping frequently and going slowly while heading westbound on the Interstate. The car was in the vicinity of State Road 559. When police approached the car, they saw that a man, said to be 32, was driving.

The man was going east on the street's westbound side after having turned around. He was also driving in the street's center lane and had no headlights activated. The man was transported to a county jail but apparently refused to complete a breath test.

When a person in Florida is charged with drunk driving, he may choose to go to trial with the hope of achieving a finding of not guilty. At trail, it is the sole burden of the government to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt; if this is not accomplished, no conviction is possible. This exacting standard exists to protect innocent people from being punished for crimes they did not commit. The prosecution may also choose to offer the accused a plea deal, which might lead to reduced charges and/or a lighter sentence for the defendant; however, the accused individual is under no obligation to accept a plea agreement. One of the chief areas of focus for the criminal defense will likely be the evidence that prosecutors intend to furnish in court to support the criminal charges filed against the accused man.
