Off-duty deputy on the wrong side of domestic violence issue

Just because someone wears a law enforcement badge during the normal course of his or her workplace duties, doesn't mean that person's private life never involves legal trouble of any kind. In fact, some Florida police officers have themselves been charged with crimes in the past. One off-duty deputy is currently facing such challenges involving domestic violence charges.

It's a complicated situation pertaining to the sheriff's deputy, his estranged wife and his daughter. The officer reportedly lives at the beach while his soon-to-be former spouse and his daughter live in a residential home. The location of the home may be part of what caused a recent altercation between the divorcing spouses.

The woman is said to have been arguing with her stepdaughter about having to live in low-income housing while the girl's father resides at the beach. Reports indicate the off-duty deputy showed up while the two were debating the matter. He was in full uniform even though he wasn't on the clock at work.

Charges against the off-duty deputy state he began arguing with his estranged wife and, at some point, threw her to the ground and pinned her there with his knee in her back. Stories from both sides greatly vary, as the deputy denies any wrongdoing in the incident. It will be up to the court to decide whether domestic violence occurred. An experienced Florida attorney knows how to build a strong defense in such situations and can exhaust all options to help a client facing such charges attempt to avoid conviction.
