Florida man accused of heroin crimes also charged for son's death

Most everyone with toddlers in their homes knows how challenging it can be to keep track of them. By age 2, many children have acquired significant mobile abilities that keep parents and other caregivers on their toes all day. Sometimes, tragedy can occur in an instant, and it's always especially sad when it involves a child. A Florida man is currently living this reality since the recent death of his son, which police say was caused by his negligence while he was high on heroin.

A mere accusation that a person is high on heroin does not necessarily make it a fact. Typically, chemical tests and other investigative measures must be taken to confirm such suspicions. In this particular situation, authorities say they found heroin, marijuana and other drug-related items inside the man's home after his 2-year-old son drowned in his swimming pool.

The child was transported to a local hospital in full cardiac arrest, but was unable to survive the incident. His father is being held on a $277,000 bound. Charges against him include aggravated manslaughter.

Even under such tragic circumstances, any Florida resident accused of a heroin crime and/or other offenses must be given his or her day in court to present as strong a defense as possible. Sometimes, things are not quite what they seem; in fact, authorities can make mistakes in their assessment of a situation. One of the things a criminal lawyer can do for someone charged with serious crimes is weed out real evidence from false, as well as determine what type of defense would be best in the hope of avoiding conviction.
