Drunk driving numbers go up during spring break

College students from all across the nation flock to Florida to enjoy some fun in the sun during the standard academic hiatus known as spring break. Many go to parties on the beach or take in local night life at various clubs and restaurants. It's not uncommon for alcohol to be included on such occasions. Where there are copious amounts of alcohol, drunk driving charges often follow.

Having a drink or two with friends doesn't necessarily mean if you later get behind the wheel of a vehicle, you're committing a crime. However, every person's body reacts differently to alcohol; so, what might not be a problem for you (insofar as driving skills becoming adversely affected) might pose significant issues for another. The best way to avoid getting arrested and charged with intoxicated driving is obviously to avoid consuming alcohol when planning to drive.

Nothing can ruin a beach vacation like having to call your parents to tell them you're in jail. If you do get pulled over, it's generally a good idea to remain calm and cooperate as much as possible with the officer at hand. Things can begin to get tricky if you're asked to step out of your car or perform certain field sobriety tests.

If drunk driving charges are filed against you, it might be difficult to keep up with your school schedule while attending required court meetings and other appointments associated with your arrest in Florida. This is another reason it often helps to secure immediate defense assistance when a problem arises. At Rogo Law, we are committed to helping you fight drunk driving charges and keep long-term negative consequences to a minimum.
