Sober home reps charged with felonies

Criminal allegations at the federal level were recently filed against six persons who work for several sober homes in Florida. Such establishments are meant to help recovering addicts get their lives back on track. The six people involved in the recent situation have been charged with felonies, including the attempt to defraud the national health care system.

Accusations against the sober home representatives state they were allowing supposedly recovering drug addicts to use drugs. The six are also accused of abusing the insurance plans of their clients, and are said to have led several clients into prostitution. Owners of addiction treatment centers, as well as several doctors, were charged with various crimes.

The six charged range in ages from 40 to 52. One gentleman is being held without bond. Federal investigators say the businesses he owned provided illegal kickbacks. He is also accused of threatening clients with physical harm and submitting unnecessary saliva and urine tests for screening.

An owner of the one of the sober homes said it seems like regulators are making up rules as they go along. He asked for clarification regarding the actual rules for operating a sober house. Facing federal charges for felonies in Florida is obviously no small matter. Chances of obtaining a positive outcome are typically increased if a defendant retains experienced criminal defense guidance before appearing in court. An experienced attorney understands how to implement aggressive strategies to help a defendant preserve his or her personal freedom and minimize the negative impact of a particular situation.
