Man accused of causing fatal accident due to drunk driving

One man in Florida has been arrested on multiple charges after being accused of drinking and driving. Police said his drunk driving caused the death of another man in a chain-reaction crash. The collision was a hit-and-run.

According to police, a 30-year-old man was driving an Acura one Monday morning and failed to come to a stop. The Acura collided with another man's vehicle, a Mercedes, at about 3:10 a.m. The Mercedes had been stopped at a red light at the time of the accident. The man driving the Mercedes died at the accident scene, and the Mercedes ended up crashing into a Ford sport utility vehicle.

A Ford pickup truck was also hit in the collision. The two people driving the Ford vehicles suffered no injuries. The Acura driver allegedly drove off following the crash, but police located him shortly thereafter. He was transported to the hospital due to having minor injuries and then was taken into custody. The man now faces charges of leaving a crash scene involving death, driving with no license and DUI manslaughter.

The drunk driving and other serious criminal charges have to be proved beyond a reasonable doubt in court by Florida prosecutors; otherwise, a conviction cannot be secured. This weighty standard exists to help prevent innocent people from being convicted of crimes they did not commit. The evidence that prosecutors intend to provide to support the allegations may very well be a main area of focus for the criminal defense. In addition to safeguarding the legal rights of the accused, defense counsel will fight to achieve the best possible outcome under all of the circumstances.
