Florida doctor faces domestic violence charge

Police recently arrested one doctor in South Florida for allegedly committing domestic violence. The man is said to have attacked his wife on a Friday morning. When people face domestic violence charges, they are always presumed innocent until and unless proved guilty in criminal court.

Police said they responded to the domestic violence scene at a home after the doctor's neighbor had called 911. The neighbor reportedly saw the doctor's wife crawl out of their home's doggie door and run away in an effort to escape the man. Police said the incident started when the doctor confronted the woman in a bedroom, took many gold rings from the woman and became violent.

The doctor, who has almost three decades of experience as a podiatrist, is said to have placed a blunt item in a sock and then swung the sock around. Authorities said the doctor then told the woman put a plastic bag in her mouth. Then, he taped the bag to her face and put tape around the woman's neck. Officials said the doctor did let the woman take the bag out of her mouth to go vomit in the bathroom, and that is when she was able to escape. The man fled and was later caught by police; he faces charges of attempted murder, battery and false imprisonment.

A person facing a domestic violence charge in Florida has the right to aggressively contest the charge in court. Only if prosecutors can prove the charge beyond a reasonable doubt can the defendant be convicted and sentenced accordingly. The prosecution may offer the defendant a plea deal, which might lead to lesser charges and thus a lighter sentence for the accused. The criminal defense will pursue the option that is ultimately in the client's best interests.
