Criminal defense essential in case of deadly hit-and-run crash

One man in Florida was recently accused of being involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash while driving with no valid license. The man was arrested following the crash and is said to have 21 previous arrests. The criminal defense will determine if it is in the man's best interests in this case to contest the charges filed against him or to plea bargain with the prosecution, if given the opportunity.

Police said the man, 39, was driving a rental SUV one day and suddenly struck the driver's side of the vehicle of a woman, 54, on a Sunday at a little past 11 a.m. Authorities said he was speeding through a residential neighborhood when the accident occurred. The accident allegedly occurred after the man blew through a stop sign.

The man and another individual reportedly ran from the vehicle crash scene. The man's previous arrests included a charge of DUI back in 2005, and he has received tickets in the past for failure to yield and speeding. His license ended up being suspended indefinitely in 2009.

When people are accused of serious crimes and decide to go to trial, prosecutors must prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt before any conviction can take place. If a person decides to strike a plea deal with prosecutors instead, this may lead to lighter charges and thus a more lenient sentence for the accused than what may result following a guilty verdict at trial. The criminal defense will focus on helping the accused to achieve the most personally favorable outcome while also ensuring that his or her rights are not violated during the criminal proceedings in Florida.
