Charges of felonies may result from alleged attempted murder

A central Florida man was recently arrested on charges of attempted murder. The alleged murder attempt took place at a duplex. When people are accused of committing murder or other types of felonies, they are always presumed innocent until and unless they are proved guilty in a court of law.

Police in Apopka said the man got into an altercation with one of his neighbors regarding where he was supposed to park his vehicle at their duplex. The two individuals eventually parted ways. However, shortly thereafter, the man reportedly told the victim that he would kill him.

While the neighbor was in the process of sweeping a carport, the man allegedly used a machete to attack him. Police reported that the victim said he thought he would die at the man's hands. The neighbor was able to escape the reported machete attack by using a broom to defend himself; he ended up suffering minor injuries.

The man who has been charged with attempted murder has the right to defend himself at trial. However, if appropriate to his circumstances, defense counsel might explore the opportunity of entering a plea agreement with Florida prosecutors. A plea agreement might offer the advantage of resulting in a more lenient sentence for the defendant compared with what might result should a guilty verdict be obtained at trial. The defendant is under no obligation to accept a plea agreement and has every right to proceed to trial to defend himself against the formal accusations. In either situation, when people are accused of committing felonies, the criminal defense will push for the outcome that will ultimately be in the best interests of the defendant.
