3 arrested for drunk driving in Florida

Three separate arrests for drunk driving were recently made in Florida. The drunk driving arrests took place along U.S. Highway 98. The arrests happened on a Sunday.

One of the drivers who was arrested was stopped by police after authorities said they noticed him swerving on the road and tailgating another car sometime close to 5:30 p.m. Police said the blood alcohol content of the man, 50, was two times the legal limit. The man reportedly told police that he had consumed a shot and a couple of beers.

The second motorist who was arrested, a woman who is 38, was also allegedly spotted swerving, and police said they saw her brake abruptly as well. Authorities said she overlooked her driver's license three times while trying to retrieve it. They said she did not want to complete a blood alcohol test. The third driver arrested for drunk driving is said to have nearly hit a police vehicle several times while driving on the highway; police said he also stopped while at a green light. He faces DUI as well as failing to obey a signal, while the first two individuals face charges of DUI and not maintaining their lanes.

If prosecutors in Florida can prove the charges filed against a person accused of drunk driving, this individual will be convicted and sentenced accordingly. A person facing DUI charges, however, may be given the option of negotiating a plea deal with the prosecution, which may lead to a lighter sentence than what would be imposed following a guilty finding at trial. The defendant has the right to pursue the most personally favorable outcome while ensuring that his or her legal rights are honored as well.
