Woman arrested for drunk driving in Florida

A Florida woman was recently arrested for driving under the influence. The drunk driving arrest took place on a recent Tuesday. It followed a high-speed police chase.

Police said the woman left a Walmart store in Collier County at about 1:30 a.m. and headed toward her house. That is when a police officer pulled the woman over on a road. Allegedly, she drove off and was potentially impaired while also driving with no headlights engaged. A second patrol car became involved in the chase near the Interstate 75 overpass.

Police said the chase ended up reaching about 110 mph in an area zoned for 45 mph. After over a couple of miles, the woman is said to have struck a curb as well as a sprinkler post in front of the entrance to a residential community. Authorities reported she then sped off into the community, driving at speeds up to 50 mph and eventually striking a curb and a tree as well as some shrubbery. When the woman reportedly backed up, she apparently hit a couple of mailboxes. Police said when they pulled her out of the car, they smelled alcohol and took her into custody.

The accused woman has the right to request a jury trial to fight the Florida drunk driving charges filed against her. If she is given the chance to strike a plea deal with prosecutors, she may consider this as well, as plea bargaining may result in lesser charges and thus a lighter and more personally favorable sentence than might be ordered were she to be convicted after trial. In either circumstance, defense counsel will fight for the client's best interests and the most favorable result possible.
