Teen charged with felonies in Florida

One teenager is facing multiple felony charges in Florida. These criminal charges are in connection with an alleged hit-and-run collision that took place on a road close to State Road 417. People who have been charged with felonies are presumed innocent unless prosecutors prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Police said the teen, 17, was involved in a chain-reaction collision one day. They said the teen drove past the man's stalled vehicle and then backed into this stalled car; the stalled car hit the man and caused him to die. The teenager then fled the scene.

The driver was taken into custody on one felony charge a couple of days following the crash. However, prosecutors recently charged him with two additional felonies. His charges include vehicular homicide as well as leaving a crash scene when the crash involved death. The teen may end up spending three decades in prison if he is convicted. Police said they believed that alcohol was a causal factor in the crash, but they could not prove this since too much time had passed by the time they took the teen into custody.

The teenager accused of these felonies in Florida has the right to go to trial to vigorously fight the charges. A person facing felony charges may also be given the option of plea bargaining with the prosecution, which may lead to a lighter sentence than what would be imposed following a guilty finding at trial. A thorough analysis of the evidence that the government plans to furnish to support its accusations may be a chief focus area for the criminal defense in determining the best way to proceed before the court.
