Businessman faces drug charges in Florida

One business owner in Florida is facing criminal charges after allegedly driving under the influence. The man also is accused of possessing cocaine. His arrest on drug charges was made on a recent Saturday morning.

The man who was arrested was the co-owner of a garage as well as a grille and other local restaurants. While he was being arrested, police reportedly discovered two small bags featuring 1.3 grams of the drug cocaine as well as cocaine residue. The arrest came after officials stopped his car, which was pulling out of a driveway where a burglary had just been reported. Police said they detected the smell of alcohol when he got out of the vehicle.

This arrest is said to have been the man's second one in a couple of years; it came shortly after his probation from a drug possession case back in 2014 was terminated early. Police reported that while he was booked at a county jail, the man said he would harm them, swore at the police and asked one female officer to get married to him. The man also asked them if they knew how he had assisted the community.

As the criminal case moves forward in Florida, the man facing driving under the influence charges and drug charges might have the chance to negotiate a plea deal in exchange for lesser charges or more personally favorable sentencing considerations. Whether to take a plea deal that is offered rests with the defendant, and he retains the right to go to trial on the merits of his case. Legal counsel will push for an outcome that is ultimately in the accused person's best interests.
