Science teacher faces drug charges in Florida

One science teacher in Florida is now facing charges after being accused of possessing drugs. The drug charges came after police were given permission to search the woman's home for a man who had fled from a sheriff's office. While in the home, they reportedly saw drug paraphernalia, which was in plain view.

Police said the paraphernalia tested positive for meth, and this sparked further investigation. Police allegedly ended up finding drugs as well as drug paraphernalia under a pillow. Specifically, they said they found a pouch surrounded by lighters along with a gum pack, and inside the gum pack was a small bag of almost 4 grams of meth. Police said this meth was in the reach of a 5-year-old child.

Police said the female science teacher in the home told them that she had meth in her handbag, which was also located in a bedroom, and she allowed police to retrieve it. They also reportedly discovered a pouch in the handbag that had half a gram of meth. Other items were found in the master bedroom, including a cleansing agent used to pass drug tests, synthetic urine, pipes, scales and baggies. The woman and a man in the home were charged with possessing meth and drug paraphernalia as well as with child neglect.

When people in Florida face drug charges, they may have the chance to negotiate plea deals in exchange for reduced sentencing considerations. A defendant, however, may instead go straight to trial, where he or she can fight the charges. A criminal defense will push for the most favorable outcome for a defendant.
