Dozens face drug charges following police investigation

Almost 40 people were recently taken into custody on drug charges in Florida. The arrests related to drug charges occurred following a police investigation that lasted two months. Police called the investigation "Operation Harvest Moon."

Police reported that many of those who were arrested are believed to be some of the most dangerous dealers of drugs in the vicinity. If convicted, most face over two decades behind prison bars. Police said that, as part of their investigation, they recovered a total of 13 firearms, as well as various drugs, including oxycodone, marijuana, heroin and cocaine. They also said that they recovered multiple vehicles, along with the cash generated from the illicit drug ring that totaled $10,000.

The individuals who were arrested include a 22-year-old man who has been charged with possessing cocaine and intending to sell it. He is also accused of using a weapon to commit a felony, as well as other crimes related to drugs. Another person who was arrested is a 26-year-old man, who also has been charged with utilizing a weapon to commit a felony and possessing cocaine that he also intended to sell.

Individuals facing drug charges in Florida may choose to go to trial if they think that is the best course of action for their cases. Prosecutors have to prove the drug charges before criminal convictions can be handed down. In some situations, the weight of the prosecution's potential evidence suggests the need to negotiate for a plea deal, which, if available, might lead to reduced charges or a lighter sentence for the accused. Defense counsel will push for the most favorable outcome for the defendant.
