Wrestler faces domestic violence charges

One professional athlete was recently accused of committing domestic violence in Florida. Domestic violence charges were filed against Thomas Latimer, a professional wrestler who goes by the name Bram. The charges were filed following an incident that took place on a recent Sunday.

Police said they received calls regarding a domestic disturbance at about 6 a.m. Once authorities arrived at the apartment where the issue was reportedly taking place, they met the wrestler, 29, as well as a woman who said she was the man's girlfriend. Police said they saw signs that a physical struggle had taken place.

Officials said the two individuals had argued, and when the woman felt scared, she hid in her room. That is when the wrestler followed her, closed the bedroom door and blocked her from leaving before allegedly pushing her onto a bed and holding her down by the neck. Latimer faces charges of domestic battery via strangulation as well as false imprisonment, both of which are felony charges. As a result of the charges, the man was suspended from Total Nonstop Action Wrestling events as officials await the case's outcome. The man had previously been arrested on charges of battery of a police officer and disorderly intoxication back in 2012.

The wrestler's charges must be proved beyond a reasonable doubt before a conviction can be secured in the case. He has the right to vigorously fight the domestic violence charges, or he may pursue negotiations for a plea deal that may lead to a more personally favorable sentence. In either case, the man's criminal defense in Florida will strive for an outcome that is in his best interests.
