Surveyors accused of committing felonies in Florida

One surveyor in Florida was recently accused of conducting surveys without a license. Authorities said he committed this crime in several counties. He was arrested and formally charged with several felonies in connection with the matter.

According to police, the man, 48, replicated old surveys that a licensed surveyor who lives in South Florida had previously completed. Police then arrested him on several charges related to the reported fraudulent activity. While arresting him, they allegedly found cocaine.

The man now faces multiple felony charges, including scheming to defraud (one count) and criminally using personal identification (four counts). He also faces charges of possessing a drug (one count) and uttering a forged instrument (eight counts). The man has also been charged with working as a surveyor with no license (four counts).

When people have been charged with felonies in Florida, it is within their rights to go directly to trial to aggressively fight the allegations -- their charges must be proved beyond a reasonable doubt before they can be convicted. As an alternative, they might decide to pursue plea agreements with the prosecution, if available. Generally, the terms of a plea agreement that is offered by prosecutors are dependent on the evidence's strength. When the evidence is strong, a plea deal might offer the benefit of a sentence that is lighter than what would be imposed if a conviction is earned at trial. In either situation, the criminal defense will strive to protect the accused person's legal rights while also pursuing a favorable result for the client.
